My Flashback Friday is to celebrate my siblings, Roderick and Cecelia.  My late brother taught me how to be very tough and kind. He was a gentle, tough Southern boy that left us too early at the age of 16. My sister taught me more than words can describe. She taught me how to put one foot in front of the other no matter what life throws at me and to work hard for my dreams. She still leads by example by being kind, loving, forgiving and strong. I believe she is a real life Wonder Woman - the strength and heart she possesses is unmatched.

I ❤️ my volunteer work with sick or injured marine mammals at The Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito, CA where I have volunteered since 2003. We rescue, rehabilitate and release the marine mammals back home to their ocean environment.

In these photos I am giving a sick CA Sea Lion a SubQ, short for subcutaneous - instead of an IV like humans receive, we give a SubQ injection, a needle is inserted just under the skin to give the animal fluids and medicine when needed.

We are the world’s largest marine mammal hospital and our mission is to advance global ocean conservation through marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation, scientific research, and education. Two years ago we opened our Ke Kai Ola: The Hawaiin Monk Seal Hospital in Hawaii to help the most endangered pinniped in the United States. I hope to have an opportunity to work there some day.

just messy me, by Estela

I said yes to help with a photo project focusing on former athletes. I think the project's focus is to catch us during our "not best" moments. LOL It has been fun as it is forcing me to be vulnerable, and that is good for me. I also love that I can be me and not put on make-up for this photo project. These are a couple of the photographs not chosen.
